According to Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act, 2006 the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) are classified into two categories:

Manufacturing Enterprises: Manufacturing Enterprises are those enterprises which engaged in the manufacture or production of goods. The Manufacturing Enterprise is defined in terms of investment in Plant & Machinery.

Service Enterprises: The enterprises engaged in providing or rendering of services and are defined in terms of investment in equipment.

Advantages of Udyam Registration (MSME Registration)

Timely payments of Dues

MSME Enterprises can avail the benefit under this scheme when the buyer does not make the payment as per the agreement or in case of no specific agreement in 45 days, then the buyer is liable to make the payment with 3 times of interest as prescribed by RBI.

Subsidy on IP Registration

A hefty 50% subsidy is given to the Enterprise that has the certificate of registration granted by MSME. This subsidy can be availed for trademark/patent registration by giving application to respective ministry.

Borrowings are Collateral free

Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for MSME are both term loans and working capital facility up to Rs.100 lakh per borrowing unit, which is provided without any collateral security or third party guarantee.

Capital and other grants for infrastructure development

Since MSMEs is a sector generating employment and giving entrepreneurial ventures a boost, the government also identifies training sectors for MSME and gives capital grants for improvisation of the infrastructure and support for entrepreneurial development.

MSME schemes launched by the Government

  • Bank Loan at Cheap rates: MSME can avail loans from banks at minimal rates.
  • ISO Expenses Reimbursement: MSME also gets reimbursement of 75% of the certification expenses on ISO Quality Management Systems (QMS)/ISO 9001 and /or Environment Management Systems (EMS)/ ISO14001and / or Food Safety Systems (HACCP) Certification upto a maximim limit of Rs. 75000.
  • Performance & Credit Rating Scheme: Under this scheme the strength and weaknesses of the enterprises of their existing operations are given by trusted third parties, so that they can avail loans at cheaper rates. The rating fee is also subsidized for the first year upto 75% or 40,000 whichever is less.
  • Concession in Electricity Bills: MSME can avail this benefit by making an application to Electricity Board.
